Chavis Enterprises Certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE)

Getting certified for anything is tough work. Professionals in teaching, sales, personal training, social work and more are often required to have a certification. These are usually rigorous tests and interviews and reviews that take up a lot of time and effort. But, anything worth getting is worth working for, as they say. It is truly an honor to have that word behind your name, describing you as a “certified” something.

MBE certification logo for Chavis EnterprisesChavis Enterprises is proud to be a certified Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). We’re happy we committed to the process and took the time and effort to earn this recognition, because we think it will help our business to grow. The Maryland MBE Program was the first program of its kind, established in 1978 to insures that small, minority- and women-owned firms can fairly participate in state and U.S. DOT federally funded projects. Maryland’s 2015 goal for MBE firms on projects was 29 percent participation. See the Chavis Enterprises MBE Directory listing.

The process starts with an application that is completed by the business owner and the filing of supporting documentation. Then, an investigation ensues, with an in-person visit to the job site and an interview with the applicant. The investigator provides a written report of his/her findings. The application then goes to Evaluation, where the MBE Advisory Committee reviews the report and the application. They determine whether or not the applicant meets the program requirements, then they issue a written statement to the applicant about their decision.

We were ecstatic the day we received the notification of our acceptance in the program! Look for the Chavis Enterprises name to be followed now with the MBE logo, for easy recognition.
